Dear Netbook Buyers,

This is serious discussion.

You are planning to spend about 300 pounds to buy a piece of 1kg item.

And it is probably going to stick to you for the next few years, unless you are rich.

If you are rich, you don't have to think, just buy Sony or AirMac.

Samsung seems nice, but seems like a new name in netbook world.

Acer, Asus, Compaq are not my type of taste.

Toshiba is ok, but it is ugly.

As always, I am critical, frank, straight to the point.

Most of us only care about few things when buying netbook.

Be honest with me, you agree with me with the following criteria:

1. Its brand - you would want Sony than Prawn.
2. Its look - you would want silver rather than brown.

3. Weight - you want 1kg, not 5kg.
4. Size - you want to carry it around to show off, not putting it permanently on your table.

5. Ease to type - you will pull all your hair out when there are so many typos.

6. Ease to use mouse - when you are frustrated, the next thing you know is that you have an injured mouse.

Now that there are so many netbooks, and most of them have been reviewed in details. My job is not to repeat it again.

But what I want to tell is the bad and good things that I found out about the popular netbooks.

HP Mini:

Yes it looks nice.
Yes it is almost a full-sized keyboard.
It is light.
But the mouse buttons are at the sides.

The current models are mini 1000 and 2140. 2140 is more powerful and expensive.

Let's look at the second one: Dell Mini 9.

It looks cute.
It has a built in sim card slot.
Small keyboard.
Most of us are concern, no it does not come with Windows, but Ubuntu unless you pay more.

Fujitsu seems alright too. Model AMILO Mini Ui 3520.
Cheap for its brand.
Good white and black combination.
But not so classy compared to HP and Dell.
Mouse buttons at the sides.
No so big keyboard.

Conclusion:

If I have the money, I would go for Sony or AirMac.

But I don't have the money. Hope to get HP 2140, but the new model 2150 with 3G is coming out in June.

Gimmick.
