If you think Sony or Air Mac is expensive enough, have a look at this one.

Well, it certainly looks like Air Mac, but it is not.

It is in fact called, Adamo by Dell.

If you've been waiting to get your hands on Dell's Adamo notebook then your wait is over - the system is now available to buy. Just try not to look at the price!

Breaking from its normal tradition of allowing buyers to configure systems as-wanted, two configurations are available. The first, at £1,649 offers a 1.2GHz Intel SU9300 processor and 2GB of DDR3 RAM while the second packs a 1.4GHz SU9400 CPU and 4GB of DDR3 and built-in HSDPA for £2,249.

Both systems are otherwise identical, boasting a 16:9 aspect ratio, 'HD Ready' 1,366 x 768 pixel, screen and a 128GB solid-stage drive. The system uses a similar unibody construction to the MacBook Air and, similarly forgoes an internal disc drive. At least Dell offers Ethernet as well as Draft-N wireless and a full-sized DisplayPort connector - no expensive adaptor needed here.

Weighing in at 1.81kg the Adamo is nigh-on half a kilogram heavier than the MacBook Air, which is definitely going to be noticeable on a lap, on in a shoulder bag. A five-hour battery life, courtesy a removable lithium polymer, is claimed but we'll believe that when we see it. The Adamo is available in both black (Onyx) and white (Pearl), but only the former looks any good if you ask me.

One entirely unpractical but quite funky feature is a magnetic cover hiding the certification stickers - and a few access screws - Microsoft's required be adorned to any Windows-powered system. In other words, the Adamo's looks aren't spoiled by the myriad stickers usually found adorning even the most minimalist of (Windows using) notebooks.

What Dell has apparently produced, then, is an even more expensive, but slightly more practical Windows-based alternative to the MacBook Air. Excellent.
